Canadian Mountain Heli-Skiing

Departing 15th March 2009

Inski Newcastle's Alan McVie has organised a CMH Heliskiing adventure departing 15th March 2009. We will be warming up at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for 5 days and then start the Heli week on 21st March 2009 leaving from Golden. The Gothics Lodge is accessed by Coach, located in the Goldstream River Valley in the Northern Selkirks, Gothics Lodge is named after a group of granite mountains whose steeple-like spires are reminiscent of Gothic cathedrals. Gothics accesses both the Northern Selkirks and the Monashees, and boasts an excellent variety of terrain, from a rich palette of tree skiing to open glacier skiing. Notable runs: Endless Journey, Run of the Century, Breathless Bowl Alan has been Heli skiing in CMH Gothics, Galena , Revelstoke, Adamants and Monashees as well as Valdez , Alaska , so he can easily introduce you to this ultimate form of skiing. We have secured a limited number of places for this trip, so if you would like to have the experience of a lifetime, join Alan at CMH Gothics. For information call Alan on 02-49265177 or for pricing and bookings call Abigail on 02-99589717 or Check out www.cmhski.com. CMH Heli-Skiing is the world's most comprehensive and spectacular wilderness skiing experience. CMH Gothics is one of twelve distinct ski areas in the remote mountains of British Columbia cover 15,765 square kilometres: more than a third the area of Switzerland . With the right attitude and a few technical tips, any strong intermediate skier can learn to enjoy wilderness powder skiing. You should have the following skills:

  • A strong, aggressive parallel turning technique
  • Adept at up-stem and kick turns
  • At ease with traversing steep slopes
  • Able to side-slip and side-step up, down, and sideways on narrow, steep terrain
  • But don’t think you have to be young and superfit, we skied with a great gentleman from the UK, in his sixties, obviously lived the good life judging by his belly, the guides all laughed about a group of young hotshots that saw him on the bus going to the lodge, they asked what should we do about the old guy, the guides response, “Try to keep up with him!” He was on his 3rd Million Vertical feet.
